Proper Equipment Creates a Safe Environment on the Court

Ensuring you have the right equipment goes beyond points and skills. At Elysium Tennis Club, the safety of our players is paramount. When players of all ages show up with the right equipment, they can safely take their skills and game to the next level. Here are some tips for any new or seasoned player to keep in mind.

Shoes – Tennis shoes are designed with additional lateral support to help players move safely from side-to-side. Running or walking shoes are built for straight-line motion and may not provide the proper support. Players can roll or twist an ankle or suffer other injuries if they are not wearing the proper footwear.

Racquet Size – This is often an issue for our junior players. Racquets can vary depending on the child’s height and strength. Finding the correct fit makes learning easier, safer and more fun! Our pro shop has the tools you need to ensure you have the right-size racquet, from beginner-friendly models to high-performance options.

Overgrip – An overgrip wraps around the original base grip of the racquet. Without one, the base grip becomes slick and deteriorates much faster. A fresh overgrip also helps your hand stay relaxed. When a grip becomes slippery, players squeeze tighter without realizing it, which can lead to tension in the wrist and forearm. A good habit is to replace your overgrip once it loses tackiness, feels smooth, or becomes dark from sweat. For many players, that is every few sessions, and for frequent players, it may be weekly.
